BLOUNT COUNTY — Schools in Blount County will dismiss at 1 p.m. and Oneonta Schools will dismiss at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday.

The announcement was made by Blount County EMA via a social media post Thursday morning. The Blount County EMA announced the possibility of severe weather as the reason for the early closings.
Meteorologists said that conditions for Thursday are favorable for the creation of tornadic supercells. The severe weather threat is expected to end by 1 a.m., but that could change so be sure to stay weather-aware.
Due to the possibility of severe weather this afternoon Oneonta Schools will dismiss at 1:15 today and cancel all after school activities. Blount County Schools will dismiss at 1:00 pm today.
