OXFORD — It was a fantastic weekend for Huskies JV softball. On Saturday Hewitt-Trussville shut out the Hoover Bucs JV softball team in the championship game, winning the Oxford Spring Sting tournament for the Huskies.
In the end, the 1-0 triumph over the Bucs had a lot to do with Tori Hyde pitching the Huskies to victory. Hyde gave up zero runs on four hits in six innings. She struck out three and walked one.
The Bucs, however, didn’t make it easy for the Huskies. Hoover struck early with a single in the first inning, with pitching and fielding keeping the Huskies to one run by striking out four and committing zero errors respectively.
In fact, the game went down to the last with Hoover having a tying run on third at the bottom of the sixth. With two outs and a batter with a 2-2 count, it was Hyde’s final strike that put this one away for Hewitt-Trussville.
Meredith Whitt got the most hits for Hewitt-Trussville, logging two hits in two at bats.
The Huskies went 5-1 over the weekend tournament with wins over Oxford, Vestavia, Moody, Geneva High and finally Hoover. The Huskies employed two pitchers throughout the tournament, Tori Hyde and Sarah Hindman, and Ana Henson did the catching.
