JEFFERSON COUNTY — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will no longer use resources to investigate bingo parlors in local municipalities.
According to a press release, the sheriff’s office will defer cases involving gambling or possession of gambling devices to municipal agencies for the enforcement of the law.
The sheriff’s office said bingo offenses are misdemeanors and that Sheriff Mark Pettway is committed to using resources to combat violent crime and illegal drug traffic. He also wants to increase officer presence in all neighborhoods.
