HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. – An 18-year-old male is dead and eight teenagers were wounded at a school shooting in a suburb of Denver Tuesday. Two suspects were taken into custody.
According to WIAT, the suspects entered the STEM School Highlands Ranch and shot victims in two separate classrooms. The school is located by a sheriff’s deputy substation and law enforcement was able to respond quickly and take the pair into custody.
“As officers were arriving at the school, they could still hear gunshots,” said Douglas County Undersheriff Holly Nicholson-Kluth.
Law enforcement believes that the rapid response of deputies contributed to lives being saved.
According to WIAT, the suspects have not been identified, but it is known that one is an adult and the other is a minor. Law enforcement will investigate their homes and vehicle.
STEM Highlands Ranch is approximately seven miles from Columbine High School. Columbine was the scene of a school shooting that killed 13 people.
