MONTGOMERY — A bill that authorizes medical marijuana to be used for certain medical conditions was approved by the Alabama Senate Thursday morning.
The bill passed through the Senate on a 17-6 vote, according to ABC 33-40.
ABC 33-40 said the bill would also create an oversight commission to avoid abuse and that patients with a valid medical cannabis card would not need to fear facing charges for possessing marijuana.
Conditions that would have to be met for a valid medical cannabis card would include a doctor’s recommendation and a second opinion, said ABC 33-40.
The next step in the process is for the bill to go to the Alabama House of Representatives.
