With the elections for Clay city council and mayor looming in just over two weeks, sitting councilman Kevin Small, who is unopposed, endorsed three candidates in the race
.
Small said tonight that he was putting his support behind incumbent Becky Johnson for Council Place 1. Johnson face Albert Neny on August 28.
“Becky Johnson loves Clay,” Small said. “She pours herself into the things she is passionate about, whether it is her church, her family, the chamber or commerce, or this city. Becky gives more than she takes and she has a lot to give Clay in terms of integrity, ideas and elbow grease.”
For Council Place 3, Small endorsed Ben Thackerson over Carol Foster.
“Ben Thackerson has supported Clay through the park Board, supporting Clay Rec as a referee and umpire,” Small said. “While I would not say there are any candidates that are anti-rec sports, I would say, there are none for council that would represent the kids of our sports teams, their parents and the people who frequent our trails as well or passionately as Ben Thackerson.”
In the race for Council Place 5, Small put his support behind Ricky Baker who is facing Cindy Godwin and incumbent Jackie Hambrick.
“Ricky Baker and I did not see eye to eye when we first met several years ago, but I have seen over time that he wants whats best for Clay and that it is easy to judge someone when you haven’t sat where they sat,” Small said. “We had the opportunity to talk recently and I was impressed with his vision for the future of Clay police enforcement, his ideas for our schools and his passion to support the children of Clay through the parks.”
