Cougar boys win Springville Christmas Classic

The Clay-Chalkville boys’ basketball team won the Springville Christmas Classic tournament last weekend in Springville.

The Cougars (13-2) defeated Weaver 65-37 last Saturday to claim the championship. Senior guard Marcus Baldwin led Clay-Chalkville with 13 points. Sophomore forward Sean Burrell scored 12 points and senior guard Cory Judkins added 10.

The Cougars beat Vincent 66-50 in the second round. Senior forward Darius Jordan led the team in scoring with 20. Baldwin scored 18 and Burrell added 13 in the win.

Clay-Chalkville blasted Saks 52-32 in the first round of the tournament. Baldwin led the Cougars with 17 points, and sophomore guard Hasan Abdullah scored 10 points and dished eight assists.

The Lady Cougars (14-2) also played in Springville over the Christmas break, defeating Springville 60-25 and Douglass 61-57.

The Clay-Chalkville girls’ and boys’ teams travel to Oxford on Tuesday for games at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
