Bessemer man who fled Trussville police captured, charged

A routine traffic stop led to a foot chase, capture and drug charges Saturday afternoon.

Trussville police chief Don Sivley said officers charged Antonio Ellis, 38, of Bessemer with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, first degree.

“An officer made a routine traffic stop on Deerfoot Parkway near the Chevron,” Sivley said. “The man started acting suspiciously and ran from the officer.”

Witnesses said the man ran across Deerfoot into a wooded area where he was apprehended and taken into custody.

According to Sivley, the man had an ounce of marijuana, an once and a half of cocaine and $1200 in cash.

Additional charges may be pending as the case continues under investigation.
