1 dead, 7 injured in wreck on I-59 near Springville

According to Audra Davis of the Alabama State Troopers, Carlos Lopez-Cortes, 27, of Ft Payne died in an the accident five miles north of Springville at 12:50 am Sunday morning.
Maria Ester Ponce-Mendoza, 28, of Ft Payne and Jovieta Cortes, 47, of Crossville were injured and transported to UAB.
A 12 year old from Crossville and three children, ages 8, 6, and 2 months,
from Ft Payne were all transported to Children’s Hospital.
The victims were traveling in a 1994 GMC Suburban when the accident occurred. The extent of their injuries is not known at this time.
