Alabama Elite Jewelers in Trussville burglarized Monday

Alabama Elite Jewelers Inc. on Main Street in Trussville was burglarized about 8:15 p.m. Monday, according to police.
The store is closed on Mondays.
A showcase was broken and an undisclosed amount of jewelry was stolen, said Jared Roddam, the store’s advertising coordinator. The back door and cabinet doors inside the store were broken, Roddam said.

Trussville police Lt. Jeff Bridges said the suspect was wearing a light-colored hoodie and was about 5-foot-11 and weighed 200 to 210 pounds. The suspect was wearing a bandana to cover his face, gloves and tennis shoes, Bridges said. The suspect appeared in the surveillance video to be a white male, “but that’s not for sure,” Bridges said.
Roddam said the suspect broke in the back door with a hammer.
The suspect, who Bridges said was in the store less than one minute, left the scene in a light-colored Honda Accord, Bridges said. Roddam said he thinks the Accord is an early 2000s model and was gray or silver.
All customer items and higher-end items were locked up and “were not disturbed,” Roddam said.

Roddam said Trussville police responded “in no time,” arriving within three minutes of the store’s alarm sounding.
Roddam said this is the first time in the store’s 13-year history that it has been burglarized and robbed.
A suspect has not yet been identified, according to police.
The investigation is ongoing.
