According to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Randy Christian, five people were transported to the hospital after a wreck on Trussville-Clay Road in Clay on Friday night.
The accident occured at 5:15 p.m
. in the 6700 block of Trussville-Clay Road, according to Christian.
“Deputies were called to the 6700 block of Trussville-Clay Road to investigate a traffic accident,” Christian said. “The investigation revealed that the 17-year-old female driver of a 2002 Ford Escape lost control of the vehicle. It left the road and struck a large rock in an adjacent ditch.”
Christian also said that along with the driver, there were three males and one female in the vehicle. Their ages are 20,18, 15 and 16. The driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and the other occupants suffered serious injuries.
Deputies had blocked access to the portion of Trussville-Clay Road from Clay-Chalkville Middle School to Old Springville Road while Center Point Fire and Rescue worked the wreck scene. The road was closed to traffic for well over an hour.
The accident remains under investigation. Conditions of the injured are not known at this time.
