Alabama Gov
. Robert Bentley proposed a 2.5 percent pay raise for teachers and support personnel in today’s state of the state address.
“I want our teachers and support personnel to know how much we appreciate how hard they work,” Bentley said.
Bentley said that as the economy improves, he expects this increase to be the start of greater and more frequent raises for teachers.
“We also will make sure our teachers – and students – are safe and protected,” Bentley said. “The events in Connecticut of last December, and the events in Alabama just this week, are a grave reminder that protecting our schools, and ensuring the safety of our students, our teachers and our bus drivers should always be a top priority.”
