Trussville getting 5 more CNG vehicles for city use

The city of Trussville is five more steps closer to converting all its city vehicles to compressed natural gas.

The Trussville City Council on Tuesday approved $200,000 to $210,000 to go toward five Ford trucks for two city departments.

The Streets and Sanitation Department will receive two F-250 extended cabs and one F-250 crew cab. The Parks and Recreation Department will receive one F-250 extended cab and one F-350 with dump body.

Mayor Gene Melton said he will order the vehicles next week and that delivery will take 10-12 weeks.

Melton said there are three Chevrolet Tahoes left to convert to CNG for the Trussville Police Department.

Melton also said the CNG pump at the Chevron station is expected to open to the public in the middle of March. The station was originally scheduled to open last month.
