Hewitt-Trussville 3rd in state wrestling tournament

Hewitt-Trussville finished third in Saturday’s AHSAA state wrestling tournament at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.

Hewitt-Trussville finished with 107 team points in Class 6A. Thompson won the tournament with 196 team points. Vestavia Hills finished with 189.

Eighth-grader Heath Williamson won the 106-pound weight class and senior Marcus Elkins won the 182-pound division. Elkins was named the AHSAA co-wrestler of the year.

Fred Denson finished fourth in the 152-pound class and Davis Perry took fifth in the 138-pound division.

Clay-Chalkville finished 19th in Class 6A. Nick Weldon won the 160-pound weight class and Jack Dobbins had a sixth-place showing in the 138-pound division.

Pinson Valley finished fifth in Class 5A with 58 team points. Arab won with 144 team points. Scottsboro, Southside-Gadsden and Benjamin Russell finished second through fourth.

Jonathan Duke won the 220-pound weight class, Patrick Tenney finished second in the 106-pound division and Hank Turner took third in the 126-pound class.
