By Gary Lloyd

The Alabama Association of Nurse Anesthetists last month honored Sen. Slade Blackwell, R-Birmingham, with the Healthcare Leadership Award.

Blackwell received the award at a meeting of Nurse Anesthetist Legislative Day on Capital Hill.

Blackwell represents Jefferson and Shelby counties in District 15.

Each year, the association presents the award to an individual who has demonstrated leadership in bringing the best, most affordable health care to Alabama citizens.

Blackwell currently serves on the board for the Lakeshore Foundation, the Birmingham History Center, the Pinson Education Foundation, the Birmingham Golf Association and the Shelby Arts Council. He is also involved in the Alabama Republican Party, the Birmingham Business Alliance and several chambers of commerce. Blackwell also serves as a volunteer coach for several youth basketball teams.
