Former HT standout named field athlete of the year

A former Hewitt-Trussville track and field standout has been named the 2013 Men’s Field Athlete of the Year for the South Region in NCAA Division II.

Devin Jones, a freshman at the University of Alabama at Huntsville, earned the honor.

Jones finished his freshman season as the top-ranked athlete in the region in the high jump and the heptathlon.

Jones also earned All-Region honors in the 60-meter hurdles, high jump and long jump.

Jones didn’t qualify for nationals but posted one of the more impressive freshman campaigns for UAH.
