Two females were in custody Saturday afternoon after allegedly stealing mail from Trussville mailboxes.
Trussville Police Department Lt. Jeff Bridges said that two black females were arrested just before 2 p.m. Saturday in the Deerfoot Parkway area. Bridges said a homeowner observed the duo allegedly stealing mail and kept them in sight until Trussville police caught them.
Bridges said one of the suspects has several warrants in surrounding areas for identity theft.
Some residents of the Calumet subdivision in Trussville reported Friday that mail was being stolen from mailboxes in the subdivision.
Bridges identified the suspects as Shayla Daughtry and Toya Shepard. Bridges said U.S. Postal Service inspectors came Monday to investigate. Both suspects have been released to the USPS, he said.
