Standout defensive back Luke Davis says he has committed to play college football for the University of
Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles.
Davis told the Tribune this afternoon that he really loved the atmosphere at USM.
“Hattiesburg has everything I could possibly want for the next four years,” Davis said. “Coach (Tommy) West and Coach (Ellis) Johnson are great defensive coaches. Those are two of the best defensive minds in football. Southern Miss just really wanted me to play there and it’s good to feel wanted.”
Davis had an offer from Alcorn State and was receiving heavy interest from Mississippi State, Georgia Tech and Ole Miss.
The 6’2″ 210 pound safety has been a leader for the Hewitt Trussville Huskies’ secondary, but he projects as a linebacker in college. “They’ve already told me that they would like to try me at linebacker,” Davis said. “I’m fine with that, but I’ll play anywhere they want me to.”
Davis is expected to be one of the senior leaders on the Huskies’ defense this coming season
