Local weather forecasters continue caution that Tropical Storm Issac– soon expected to be Hurricane Issac– is subject to changing course at any time
. For now, the National Weather Service is cautioning residents along the northern gulf coast that models show a path that places them directly in the targeted area of landfall sometime in the middle of the coming week.
The current path also shows the storm impacting The Tribune coverage area of Trussville, Clay and Pinson between Thursday and Friday with sustained winds between 30 and 45 mph if it maintains the current path and speed.
Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama along with Florida coastal towns of Destin, Ft. Walton and Pensacola are at the heart of the projected path, but the watch area extends further in both directions.
According to Weather.com, “Tropical Storm Isaac will continue to affect southern Florida with heavy rain, gusty winds and a tornado threat as it moves through the Florida Keys Sunday night. Isaac poses a potential serious threat to portions of the northern Gulf Coast Tuesday into Wednesday. All interests from Louisiana to Mississippi, Alabama and the Florida Panhandle should watch the progress of Isaac closely and be ready to make preparations.”
The Tribune will continue to follow this story throughout the upcoming week.
