Voters turned out at Clearview Baptist Church and the Clay Community Center on Tuesday to select the next Clay mayor and city council. With all boxes reporting, The Tribune is projecting the winners in the Clay mayor and council race.
In the mayoral race, incumbent Ed McGuffie faced Councilman Charles Webster. Unofficial results show Webster with 855 votes and McGuffie with 544 votes.
In Council Place 1, incumbent Becky Johnson faced challenger Albert Neny
. Unofficial results in that race showed Johnson with 1,056 votes and Neny with 264 votes.
In the race for Council Place 3, Carol Foster faced challenger Ben Thackerson. Unofficial results in that race showed Thackerson with 866 votes and Foster with 458 votes.
The race for Council Place 5 had incumbent Jackie Hambrick facing Ricky Baker and Cindy Godwin. Unofficial results in that race showed Baker with 667 votes, Hambrick with 490 votes and Godwin with 184 votes.
That would place Baker in a run-off with Hambrick on Oct. 9.
