Clay officials met as scheduled today at noon to canvass votes from last week’s election, but lack of a quorum caused the canvassing to be postponed until tonight’s council meeting.
The canvassing of votes is a normal routine during which elected officials get their first look at provisional votes cast during the election. Provisional ballots are typically provided to any voters whose voting status may be in question on election day. Those ballots are then forwarded to the Jefferson County registrar for certification or denial.
Today’s meeting was attended by Mayor Ed McGuffie and Councilors Becky Johnson and Charles Webster
. Councilors L.B. Feemster, Kevin Small and Jackie Hambrick were not able to attend.
