A Pinson resident in the 3900 block of Sharon Church Road called the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office Friday afternoon at 1:30 to report a person with a gun, Chief Deputy Randy Christian said today.
“The caller told deputies that a man armed with a gun was attempting to break in to her residence,” Christian said. “When the suspect was unable to get into the home, he fired the gun into the air and then left on foot. The victim gave deputies a description of the suspect and told them which way he went.”
The suspect fled in the direction of Kermit Johson Elementary School which was placed on lockdown as a precaution

“The suspect was captured before getting close to the school,” Christian said. “The students and faculty at the school were not endangered.”
The suspect, 29 year old Aarron James Saxton of Pinson, was taken into custody a short distance from the victim’s residence. He was charged with Attempted Burglary 1st Degree, Menacing, Reckless Endangerment, and Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree according to the report from Christian. He was taken to the Jefferson County Jail in Birmingham where he posted $42,000 bond and was released.
