Three big screens take up much of the space of one of the walls at the new Trios restaurant, which will open on Sept
. 12 between PetSmart and Moe’s in Trussville. “You’ll be able to watch Alabama, Auburn and UAB without turning your head,” said owner Preston Kelley.
In addition to the three big screens, a smaller one is in the corner. “You can’t have too many TVs,” Kelley said.
Although the college sports on the screens will be part of the diners’ experience, the name comes from a more local athletic interest.
“Trios” was chosen so Husky, Cougar and Indian fans will feel welcome.
Kelley said Trios could be compared in style to Buffalo Wild Wings or Applebees. But what will be unique, said Kelley, is the full meals and menu variety combined with the sports theme.
Johnny Bruce, formerly with Husky Grill Express, is one of the chefs. According to Kelley, Bruce will continue to offer customers the tender fillet mignon steaks he is known for.
Pasta, burgers, wings and more will also be on the menu, along with a full bar.
Kelley, a Hewitt graduate, said he always wanted to own a business in Trussville. When asked if he is an entrepreneur at heart, Kelley responded, “You could classify me as that.”
Kelley’s new adventure, the business venture, has made him change his stock answer of how he is doing. With an attitude of enjoying life, wherever it takes him, he used to say he was “just livin’ the dream.” He now answers that he is “just livin’ the dream at Trios.”
