At tonight’s Clay City Council meeting, the council unanimously passed Resolution 2012-21, which declared Ricky Baker duly elected to Clay City Council Place 5.
After the Aug. 28 municipal elections and the Sept. 4 canvassing of votes, it was determined that Baker and incumbent Jackie Hambrick would be in a runoff for Council Place 5 on Oct. 9.
However, Hambrick presented a letter to Mayor Ed McGuffie on Sept. 6, stating that, “due to unforeseen circumstances relating to (her) health,” she would not be able to participate in the runoff election
.
“I appreciate the opportunity to have worked these past four years to make a difference in the great community of Clay,” she wrote. “I want to thank all of the super employees at City Hall and the Clay Library for the great job they do daily. I thank you, Mayor, for all your hard work and exceptional leadership. My prayers will be with the city of Clay that all citizens, government and community leaders will strive for excellence in all areas. Our city deserves nothing less.”
