The Clay City Council opened bids tonight for the demolition of houses that were damaged by the Jan. 23 tornado.
Twelve companies submitted bids for the demolition of 5118 Rick Drive, 5410 Balboa Circle, 5523 Spanish Trace and 5530 San Marcos Drive. All companies except one included structural, vegetation, slab and driveway demolition in their bids.
Tomlin Excavation submitted bids only for structural and vegetation demolition. The company quoted $7,200 each for the properties on Rick Drive, Balboa Circle and San Marcos Drive. It bid $9,200 for the property on Spanish Trace.
All Star Realty Company, Inc., bid $8,650 for the Rick Drive property, $8,300 for the Balboa Circle property, $7,700 for the Spanish Trace property and $8,900 for the San Marcos Drive property.
Bento Construction bid $11,000 each for the Rick Drive, Balboa Circle and Marcos Drive properties, and $12,500 for the Spanish Trace property.
Cummings Grading bid $6,700 for the Rick Drive property, $6,800 each for the Balboa Circle and San Marcos Drive properties, and $5,500 for the Spanish Trace property.
D & R Contracting bid $7,500 for the Rick Drive property, $7,100 for the Balboa Circle property, $9,100 for the Spanish Trace property and $7,400 for the San Marcos Drive property.
D & S Excavation bid $11,500 for the Rick Drive property, $13,700 for the Balboa Circle property, $12,500 for the Spanish Trace property and $10,500 for the San Marcos Drive property.
Deconstruction & Waste Services bid $11,500 for the Rick Drive property, $11,100 for the Balboa Circle property and $14,800 each for the Spanish Trace and San Marcos Drive properties

Elliott Construction bid $5,975 each for the Rick Drive and San Marcos Drive properties, $6,975 for the Balboa property and $6,375 for the Spanish Trace property.
Love Landscapes bid $4,798 for the Rick Drive property, $5,198 for the Balboa Circle property, $6,998 for the Spanish Trace property and $4,698 for the San Marcos Drive property.
Mark Keel Construction LLC bid $6,334 for the Rick Drive property, $7,234 for the Balboa Circle property, $6,134 for the Spanish Trace property and $7,334 for the San Marcos Drive property.
R&K Construction bid $11,550 a piece for all four properties.
Finally, Lamar Moore bid $6,100 for the Rick Drive property, $6,300 for the Balboa Circle property, $7,340 for the Spanish Trace property and $6,150 for the San Marcos Drive property.
“All these packets will be checked out,” Mayor Ed McGuffie said. “Once these are checked out, we will award the bid next meeting.”

The council also passed a proclamation to observe the month of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
According to the proclamation, “October 2012 marks more than 25 years that the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month has educated women about early breast cancer detection.”
