What is the most important organ in your body? Obviously, the brain and spinal cord give healing to the whole body, so they reign supreme. Then comes the heart. If you ask me, though, the liver is right up there with the heart. When seeking to live a long and healthy life, good cholesterol levels, and living at your full potential, you must have a healthy liver
.
Did you know that your liver is one of the hardest working organs in your body? It has approximately 400 different jobs! The liver is vital in weight control, keeping your blood clean and making sure you are healthy. It also plays a major part in hormonal and blood sugar balance. Your liver produces something called bile, which helps emulsify and digest fat. Amazing, right? Who knew the liver was so important?
So where do the problems with your liver start? Our bodies get overloaded with stress, especially from chemicals. We take in toxins from our food, water, medicines, vaccines, air, cosmetics and other byproducts of our normal metabolism. I like to use the analogy of the oil filter when explaining the liver. Your liver is your body’s “oil filter”. Just as an oil filter in a car filters debris and trash from the oil, your liver filters debris and trash out of your body. What often happens is the liver gets overloaded and plugged, and then the kidneys, gallbladder and colon have to try to help calm the storm. For this reason, you often hear of people having their gallbladder removed. If the liver is plugged, other organs have to pick up the slack. In order to help other organs function well, you must have a healthy-functioning liver.
What are some ways you can prevent liver issues? The number one thing I suggest is to have your nervous system checked regularly. Through chiropractic, we help make sure the nerves that bring function to the liver are functioning optimally. Secondly, if you have hemorrhoids, varicose veins or cherry hemangiomas, you need to be checked for a plugged liver. Lastly, if you have not detoxified your organs through some type of detoxification program within the last year, your liver and related organs, more than likely, need some help in order to clean them out.
