Through a long day of waiting in lines and filling out ballots, a good 77.52 percent of registered voters in Jefferson County showed up at the polls to cast their votes Tuesday.
“Just be happy we all have the freedom to vote for our president,” Trussville’s Montie Aaron Norsworthy said on The Tribune’s Facebook. “Most countries do not have that privilege.”
As of press time, presidential election unofficial poll results from 355 or 360 county precincts showed Jefferson County in favor of President Barack Obama with 154,389 votes (52.43 percent) to presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s 137,188 votes (46.59 percent). Nationally, the president was declared the winner by a 303-206 margin in the competition for the 270 electoral votes, according to multiple media outlets.
