Tucked away inside a small building on Glenn Avenue, one local business is doing big things to help promote health, nutrition and wellness to members of the community.
Owner Jennifer Cole Conn has established the new facility, called Farmhouse, in order to help educate Trussville about eating healthy.
Conn says she realizes that no single diet works for everyone, so she guides her clients to find the food and lifestyle choices that are best suited to each individual.
“By teaching such things as confidence in the kitchen, eating with the seasons, and how to make sustainable food choices, we help customers to make gradual, lifelong changes that enable them to reach their current and future health goals,” she said.
Some services offered at the Farmhouse include a six month health and lifestyle program, healthy cooking demonstrations, in-home cooking classes, food and health seminars, corporate food training, natural foods store tours and personal training
.
Conn recently held an open house for the community to experience the store and learn about all of the services provided. The Farmhouse is a one stop shop for healthy eating. Currently, the shelves are stocked with local produce provided by local farmers, including goat cheese, greens, eggs, tomatoes, radishes and more.
The store also offers a unique variety of coffees, honey, nuts, grains and more. One of the key elements of the facility its in-store kitchen, where Conn will teach classes and give cooking demonstrations.
The daily Farmhouse market will be open every Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Conn is also hosting special events like beer and wine tastings and educational classes. She is also hosting a winter food drive. She hopes the community will begin to understand the importance of our health, diet and lifestyle choices.
“I just want Trussville to eat more fruits and veggies,” she said.
Conn received her education from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition to become a Certified Holistic Health Care Professional and Food Educator; she holds a culinary degree and practices as a Natural Foods Chef and is a member of the American Culinary Federation. She is also a Certified Personal Trainer.
