Game Recap: Hoover 44, Clay-Chalkville 20
Here is a brief recap of tonight’s game. We will be posting the full game story soon.
In tonight’s matchup, the Clay-Chakville Cougars took on the Hoover Bucs on the road in the 6A semifinal round
.
In front of a packed stadium, the Cougars were able to gain first possession of the ball. But within minutes of the first quarter, the Hoover Buccaneers was the first team to put numbers on the board.
Hoover scored after a 57-yard pass with 10:31 to go in the first quarter. Hoover was up over Clay-Chalkville 7-0.
The Cougars wasted no time fighting back. Sydney Battle scored for the Cougars on a 1 yard run with 8:37 on the clock. The game was tied 7-7. Within minutes, Hoover scored again on a 6-yard run with 6:32 on the clock, putting Hoover in front 14-7 over Clay.
In the last play for the Bucs in the first quarter, Hoover hit a 21 yard field goal with 1:08 on the clock, putting the Bucs ahead of the Cougars 17-7.
In the second quarter, the Bucs score on a 9 yard run minutes into the second quarter. Hoover was ahead 24-7 over Clay-Chalkville.
The Cougars return fire when Brian Clark scored on a 31-yard pass from Hayden Moore. With 5:47 left in the second quarter, the Bucs were leading the Cougars 24-14.
Hoover scored again on a one yard run with less than one minute until halftime.
The second half of the game started in Hoover’s hands. As the second half of the game began, Hoover was ahead 30-14 over Clay-Chalkville.
The Bucs scored on a 17 yard run with 7:57 to go in the third quarter, bringing the score to Hoover 37, Clay-Chalkville 14.
The Cougars keep fighting as Brian Clark scored for the Cougars on a 25 yard pass from Hayden Moore. The score became Hoover 37, Clay-Chalkville 20.
The third quarter saw a Cougar interception at the Bucs 47 yard line with 3:30 to go, but Hoover managed a score on an 80 yard run with 1 minute to go in the third quarter. Hoover was in front 44-20.
Hoover held possession of the ball throughout the fourth quarter, bringing tonight’s final score to Hoover 44, Clay-Chalkville 20.
