The Hewitt-Trussville High School wrestling team made another strong showing Saturday at the Tuscaloosa County Duals
. The team finished second in the tournament, which was a team-versus-team format event.
The Huskies defeated the Arab High School “B” team (59-21), American Christian (59-7), and Tuscaloosa County High School (39-34) before losing to the Arab High School “A” team in the finals by a tight 41-36 margin.
Coach Mark Snider pointed out that, in addition to their overall results, several members of the team have been turning in outstanding individual performances, as well.
“Marcus Elkins (senior) and Heath Williamson (eighth grade) both remain undefeated for the season,” Snider said. “We have several other good wrestlers with excellent records on the season.”
After two promising performances on consecutive weekends, the Huskies’ season gets more difficult starting next weekend as they travel to Georgia for a tournament at Fayette County High School.
“It should be a good test for our team against a tough field of 32 teams,” Snider said. “We are the only team from outside of Georgia.”
The field will be much larger than those the Huskies have faced the past two weekends, and the format will be different, as well. The tournament will be held over two days next weekend from Friday, Dec. 28 through Saturday, Dec. 29. Competition starts at 9 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on both days.
