In a recent casting for a new reality show, several Alabama residents were chosen to be on CMT’s latest creation, “Redneck Island.”
According to the show’s website, 14 rednecks descend on Steve Austin’s tropical island for their chance to compete for $100,000.
Cast members from the show will all be traveling to Trussville’s neck of the woods this weekend and will be present at the Bass Pro Shop store in Leeds. The meet and greet session will be held Saturday from 4p.m. to 6 p.m. Following the meet and greet, fans of the show are invited to watch the final two episodes of the latest season.
Cast members are hosting a viewing party at the Fox and Hound, a bar located on Highway 280. The viewing party starts at 8 p.m., where fans and friends can watch the final episodes with cast members.
One cast member who is helping to host the event is Pinson’s Lisa McCreless, who was chosen along with four other Alabama natives as part of the cast for the reality series.
McCreless was a fan of the first season and when she found out the show was holding a casting call for the second season, she jumped at the chance
.
An estimated 10,000 people auditioned to be on the show, a sign to the producers that the first season was popular.
The show portrays everyday Southern people and puts them in funny, challenging situations. Not only is the city of Pinson been put on the map through the show, but other communities in Alabama have also gained interest with cast members representing Leeds, Ashville, Alberta and Alexander City.
“The show is coming to the Birmingham area because so many of the cast members are from Alabama,” McCreless said.
Event planners estimate that more than 100 people are invited to the event, plus those who are fans of the show.
“We have rented out the entire back room of the Fox and Hound, and there will be a big screen, a projector, pool tables and more,” McCreless said. “This is going to be a blowout.”
