Weigh-in and registration for teams participating in the 2013 Scale Back Alabama contest begins Saturday and runs through next Friday.
Local teams participating can weigh in and register with team members at Hewitt-Trussville High School.
There is no pre-registration and no cost to participate. Participants must be at least 18 years old and form a team of four individuals. If your body mass index is less than 20, you don’t need to participate in the program.
Each team’s captain is in charge of making sure the team weighs in and registers at an official weigh-in site during Weigh-In Week. The captain also provides motivation and encouragement to fellow team members. Hewitt-Trussville High School is a public weigh-in site for Trussville City School and the community.
Weigh-in times are Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Once registered, participants will be asked for their email address to be used to send weekly emails from Scale Back Alabama with information about nutrition and exercise
.
To be eligible for prizes, participants must weigh in and out at official sites during the specified weeks. The Weigh-Out Week is April 6-12. Prizes will be announced April 26.
Scale Back Alabama, now in its seventh year, is a statewide weight-loss contest designed to encourage Alabamians to get healthy and to have fun while doing it. The 2012 campaign drew nearly 30,000 people in almost every county with a cumulative reported weight loss of 148,963 pounds.
The campaign is geared toward adults and is primarily operated with the help of local employers (companies with 10 employees or more), hospitals and health departments.
