Officials in Trussville recovered the body of a male and a white pickup truck from a pond at the intersection of Highway 11 and Camp Coleman Road at about 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Trussville Fire and Rescue personnel were diving the pond when the discovery was made.
“The city is getting ready to install guardrails in that area,” Chief Don Sivley of the Trussville Police Department said. “Before the guardrails are installed, we thought it was a good idea to make sure that we removed anything in there. During the search, they found the pickup truck and the body.”
Chief Sivley said the license plates on the truck are registered to an out of area male. The vehicle is believed to have been in the pond for months, but had not been visible from the surface
.
“We have some good information to go on in our investigation,” Sivley said. “Obviously, we’ll await positive identification and proper notification before releasing any additional information at this time.”
The truck was towed from the scene. The body was recovered from the pond by Fire and Rescue personnel working from a small boat a short time later and was transported to the Jefferson County Coroner’s office.
The case remains under investigation by the Trussville police.
