The city of Clay is seeking members for its Community Development and Annexation Committee.
Clay City Councilman Mark Halstead and city employees have been surveying the empty commercial spaces to prepare for attracting businesses to Clay. He has also been meeting with some businesses that have shown interest in locating in Clay.
Mayor Charles Webster said the committee has four or five members. A couple people expressed interest to Halstead after last week’s Clay City Council meeting, leaving maybe just one spot, Webster said.
“I know he’s getting close,” Webster said.
According to the city’s website, www.clayalabama.org, three committee members are Kim Wren, Janice Brown and Irwin Fingerman
.
The committee works on identifying properties that are not in the city limits of Clay but are surrounded by properties that are inside the boundaries. The goal will be to fill in the holes, Webster said.
“As far as community development and annexation goes and different stuff we need to look at, as far as where does the city want to get its boundaries to, let’s go ahead and define that area and work on developing that plan,” Webster said of the committee’s goal. “(It’s about) where do we want the city to go. Do we want it to go up Chalkville Mountain Road and touch Trussville, do we want to go back toward Pinson, do we want to go toward St. Clair County.”
