Clay-Chalkville senior wide receiver DeAndre Woods has been named the Bryant-Jordan Student-Athlete Achievement Award winner for the area covering Clay-Chalkville, Pinson Valley, Oxford and Gadsden City.
Woods or the winner of the area including Albertville, Grissom, Huntsville and Lee-Huntsville will be named the Class 6A, Region 5 winner
.
The Bryant-Jordan Student Athlete Program annual banquet and awards ceremony will be April 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel Ballroom. All 96 regional winners will be recognized and honored, and the 12 class winners and the two state winners will also be announced.
Woods, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound prospect, is verbally committed to play college football at Vanderbilt. He is expected to sign with the Commodores next Wednesday at 1:45 p.m. in Clay-Chalkville High School’s auditorium.
Woods was named an honorable mention all-state player by the Alabama Sports Writers Association after the 2011 season, in which he caught 36 passes for 460 yards and 10 touchdowns.
