A Clay man has published a book about the book of James.
Joel Dison, the pastor at Ruffner Valley Baptist Church in Irondale, published “Faith Beyond Belief” in November 2012 through Cross Point Publishing.
Dison, a 1984 Hewitt-Trussville High School graduate, began writing the 238-page book in late 2011, he said
.
Dison said the book is about how faith becomes “practical” and “active” in people’s everyday lives, and what it means to walk in one’s faith.
Dison said he began studying the book of James, then started to teach about it. He then wrote about it. The idea for the book came from studying, teaching and writing. Dison said the book is written in much the same way he teaches about the book of James.
“I love to write. My passions are preaching, teaching and writing,” he said. “I love to teach. I love to preach. I love to write. Those kind of come together and I wanted to turn that into something that other people can get and use, and it be like teaching to them.”
Dison, a project manager with an electrical engineering degree from UAB, earned his Master’s of Divinity degree in 2011 from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He’s a partnership coordinator for Designs for Hope, a missions organization that puts design skills to use in advancing the gospel of Jesus Christ.
“Discipleship is very important to me,” Dison said.
Another of Dison’s books, “Indescribable Joy,” is expected to be released in the spring. The book is about discovering the principles of joy from Paul’s letter to the Philippians.
Dison is married to Patty and has two adult children as well as one unofficially “adopted” adult child.
