The city of Clay will have to pay a fee for splash pad equipment it refused to have delivered.
The splash pad equipment would have cost the city more than $174,000.
The city saved money on an installation fee, but is still having to pay Rain Drop, Inc. a restocking fee, which was negotiated down to $25,000 from nearly twice that amount, said Clay City Manager Ronnie Dixon.
The city planned to add the splash pad to Clay City Park, but newly elected Mayor Charles Webster in December said the money wasn’t currently there for the equipment.
The Clay City Council in May 2012 had approved of purchasing the equipment for 1,542.10
. The splash pad water park was to include a slide and multiple pieces of equipment that spray and dump water. Former Clay City Councilman L.B. Feemster had hoped the splash pad would be open before September 2012.
