In an email to parents Friday, Paine Primary School Principal Betsy Schmitt said the school is in need of volunteers to help execute the new safety standards in place at the school
.
“We are in desperate need for volunteers to monitor the front doors to our building,” Schmitt said in her email.
The announcement said
for the safety of students and staff, administrators have chosen to keep the front doors locked throughout each day for the remainder of this school year. On average, the school has about 50 visitors a day, which means one of the office workers must leave their desk to unlock the door. Plans are being made to install additional entry doors with an access control system for the 2013-2014 school year, but in the meantime the school needs volunteers to staff the door.
“If anyone in your family (parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles) would be willing to sit in the foyer to open the door for visitors, take their driver’s license, and give them a visitor’s sticker, we need you,” Schmitt said. “If you can help for an hour, the morning, part of the day, or the entire day, please call our office at 228-3200 and we will put you on our schedule.”
