The Clay City Council on Monday night voted unanimously to annex Center Point Fire Station No. 5 into the city of Clay.
The station is located at 5470 Chalkville Mountain Road.
Center Point Fire Chief Donnie West was at the city council meeting to express his wishes for the station to become part of the city of Clay. Center Point Fire Station No. 4 is located in Clay, at 6411 Clay-Palmerdale Road.
“The Center Point Fire Department covers an area of roughly 70 square miles,” West said. “Station 4 is right in the heart of Clay, and now we have Station 5 right behind us and we would entertain annexing this into Clay.”
The fire department covers Clay and Pinson, in addition to Center Point.
In other business, the city council voted to sell three pieces of equipment and one boat as surplus
. The city has accumulated two dump trucks with a combined mileage of more than 600,000 miles and a 1970s-era motor grader that lacks the ability to turn. The council hopes to sell all three items for $4,500. The council hopes to get $1,500 for a fiberglass boat with a 28-horsepower motor. The boat was purchased to help with cleanup at Cosby Lake, but was found to be completely unfit for that job. It has not been used since the city acquired it.
The council also voted to change its fiscal year in order to make it more in line with the practice of other cities. The new fiscal year will begin Oct. 1 and will end Sept. 30. The previous administration was put under a 15-month fiscal year for unknown reasons, said City Manager Ronnie Dixon.
