Curbside recycling in Clay will begin April 1, it was announced today.
The Clay City Council earlier this month accepted a garbage pickup bid from BFI Waste Systems, which is doing business as Republic Services.
Residents will now pay $13.65 per month, which includes mandatory recycling. Clay residents will keep the garbage cans they have now, and a separate 95-gallon bin for recycling will be distributed to them. Residents will be responsible for separating their recycling, and the public recycling bin at Clay City Hall will likely be removed.
Residents may also request special pink garbage cans, which benefit the Susan G. Komen foundation for breast cancer research.
Garbage pickup schedules are expected to remain the same, though recycling pickup is likely to be every other week on different days from regular garbage pickup.
