A bid was accepted by the Pinson City Council last week for a new roof for the Palmerdale Homesteads Community Center.
The city accepted a bid from Weather Guard Metal Roofing for $49,867 to replace the roof. Any unforeseen problems that might be encountered by the roofing company may require additional expense.
“I want to thank you all for the roof,” said Barry Wilson, the community center’s director. “Now we can get rid of the buckets.”

The city has been systematically restoring the building to as close to original as possible, and the roof will look historically accurate when completed.
The city also annexed two new parcels of land that will open access to a new area. According to Pinson Mayor Hoyt Sanders, the residents of the Jackson Road area, northwest of Pinson, have expressed interest in joining the city limits. The two parcels of land on Jackson Road, near Narrows Road and Turkey Creek Road, have become the first to be accepted into the city.
“These are the first connecting pieces to move us in that direction to the northwest,” Sanders said.
An error was made in the amount of money needed for the rides at CityFest, scheduled for April 6 in Pinson. The Pinson City Council originally thought the rides would cost around $2,500. The actual cost will be closer to $4,300. The council voted to amend the allocation to reflect the cost difference as well as include a small buffer. The total amount allocated is now $4,500.
Councilwoman Joy McCain also discussed the purchase of equipment for Movies in the Park
. For the immediate future the council will continue to rent the equipment and hire technicians. The first movie of the season will be the Disney movie “Brave” on May 3. The city will expend roughly $1,250 for each movie.
