The Pinson Education Foundation is ready to take nominations from the citizens of the community for this year’s awards banquet.
The banquet will be May 6 at 7 p.m. at Palmerdale United Methodist Church.
The foundation is accepting nominations for Student of the Year, which must be a Pinson Valley High School senior; Teacher of the Year; and Support Personnel Member of the Year.
The last two awards may have nominations from all four area schools — Pinson Valley High School, Rudd Middle School, Pinson Elementary School and Kermit Johnson Elementary School. Character winners from Rudd Middle School and Pinson Valley High School will also be honored.
“It is the goal of the foundation to mobilize our community in support of our local schools,” said Joe Cochran, a Pinson City Council member who serves as the foundation’s executive director.
Cochran said there will be monetary awards given to the recipients of the three major categories through donations to the foundation.
The foundation’s committee members include Jefferson County Commissioner Joe Knight, Policy Director and Executive Assistant to the Office of Senate Majority Leader Michael Ciamarra, Pinson Public Library Director April Wallace, Southeastern Conference Replay Official Bob Patrick, retired Jefferson County teacher Mike Dutton, State of Alabama Rep. Alan Treadaway, State of Alabama Rep. Paul DeMarco and State of Alabama Sen. Scott Beason.
