The Trussville City Council last week approved four proclamations for city-wide events and recognitions.
The city recognized City Fest, formerly known as Dog Daze Festival, as a city-wide event. City Fest is set for May 3-4 on The Mall in downtown Trussville. More information on City Fest will be available next month.
The city recognized Relay for Life, set for May 17 beginning at 6 p.m. through May 18 at 6 a.m., as a city-wide event. The event will be at the track and youth football field in the Trussville Sports Complex.
The city council approved a proclamation recognizing April 21 as PowerTalk 21 Day in Trussville, a day to encourage parents and caregivers to embrace their roles in influencing youth and their decisions about drinking alcohol
. Teen alcohol use kills about 5,000 people per year.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving Alabama on April 21 will offer a free community parent workshop to give parents the tools in a parent handbook to effectively talk to their teens about alcohol.
The city council also approved a proclamation recognizing April is Donate Life Month, which supports the Alabama Organ Center’s life-saving mission. According to the United Network for Organ Sharing 2012 data, a new patient is added to the national waiting list for an organ transplant every 18 minutes. Of the 5,459 candidates who died on the national waiting list in 2012, 190 were on Alabama’s waiting list.
According to the proclamation, the city of Trussville honors “all who have given the gift of life, we focus our efforts on the extreme need for organ and tissue donors, and we encourage residents to designate their donation decision and share the decision to donate with family members.”
