After losing the first game of this week’s Mountain Brook Sports Corporation Spring Break Tournament to Oak Mountain 9-4, Clay-Chalkville reeled off three consecutive wins.
The Cougars bested Mountain Brook 5-3 and 3-2, and dropped Oak Mountain 5-2 in its final game of the tournament.
Oak Mountain finished the three-team tournament with a 3-1 record and host Mountain Brook finished 0-4.

In Clay-Chalkville’s 3-2 win over Mountain Brook, the Cougars plated three runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by sophomore Tyler Duke’s RBI double that put the team on top, 3-2. Senior Hunter Duke earned the win, allowing one earned run on three hits across four innings. He struck out four batters.
In Clay-Chalkville’s 5-2 win over Oak Mountain, sophomore pitcher Matthew Calvert threw a complete game two-hitter, allowing two earned runs
. He struck out 11 batters and walked three. Junior Darius Baldwin finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Clay-Chalkville travels to Pinson Valley next Thursday for a 7 p.m. game. Clay-Chalkville hosts Leeds at 10 a.m. next Saturday and Guntersville at 5:30 p.m. next Saturday.
