The Hewitt-Trussville boys’ outdoor track and field team placed third while the girls took ninth in the 21st annual Allstate Sugar Bowl Track and Field Classic at Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans on Friday and Saturday.
High school teams from Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and Texas competed in the event.
Hewitt-Trussville led all teams after day one of the track and field meet Friday.
The boys’ team finished first in the 4×800-meter relay, a four-man team consisting of Daniel Rush, Austin Norwood, Brian Russell and Tyler Jackson.
In the boys’ 200-meter run, Trevian Jenkins finished fifth out of 68 runners. Allec Belcher placed 17th.
Ike Anwah finished 10th out of 81 runners in the boys’ 400-meter run. In the boys’ 800-meter run, Norwood placed 15th out of 74 runners, while Russell took 22nd. The boys’ 4×400 relay team took sixth

In shot put, Spencer Nezat placed second and Michael Snow finished in fourth place.
For the girls, the 4×400 relay team placed third, clocking a season-best time. The four-girl team consists of Brianna Hampton, Erianna Hill, Madelaine Julbert and Veronica Lyle.
Lyle placed second in the 1,600-meter run, while Alexandria Pidcock took seventh. Pidcock finished in sixth place out of 59 runners in the 800-meter run.
