The Authentic South website describes the new program as a “storytelling podcast on Southern culture.” In Tanner Latham’s debut program, he interviews different characters from Alabama, including Trussville’s John Floyd, and asks for their take on what it means to be Southern.
Latham, who created, produces and hosts the program, is described on the website as, “...a travel writer and multimedia storyteller based in Atlanta. After growing up in a small town in Alabama, Tanner spent over 10 years traveling throughout and reporting about the South as a Travel Editor for Southern Living magazine. He was also on staff as the multimedia reporter at NPR affiliate WFAE 90.7 in Charlotte, North Carolina.“
Floyd is the retired editor-in-chief of Southern Living, the magazine he led for almost 20 years through one of the publication’s most successful eras of growth
. Along with Floyd, the first episode features interviews with Latham’s grandmother, an Ole Miss professor, and a Korean-born chef at a barbecue joint in Georgia.
