Former “American Idol” finalist Danny Gokey will headline this year’s Trussville City Fest.
The 33rd annual festival, formerly known as Dog Daze, is presented by the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce and will be May 3-4 at The Mall in downtown Trussville. Admission is free.
Gokey, who finished third in Season 8 of the television competition, will perform May 3 at 8 p.m. Gokey is a country music singer from Milwaukee, Wis. He released his first album, “My Best Days,” in 2010. The Jeff Otwell Band will perform before Gokey.
City Fest will feature kids’ activities available with a $10 wristband, plenty of food and fireworks.
Trussville resident and Justin Bieber lookalike Brad Price will perform with the Bailey Dance Studio on May 4. The dance group minus Price will perform and provide instruction to students at Hewitt-Trussville Middle School on Friday before the festival. This group’s appearance is made possible by a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts
Activities on May 4 will also include caricature artists, a giant Lego display, a balloon twister, face painting, booth vendors and food.
Winners of Trussville’s Beautification awards will be announced, and Miss Trussville Meschelle Stringer and other local artists will also perform.
This year’s festival will again feature a classic car show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the courtyard in front of the former middle school. The entry fee for a classic car is $10 and goes toward what classic car show participants will know as a “money tree.”
City Fest T-shirts will be available for $5.
May 3 festival hours are 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and May 4 hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
