A Clay-Chalkville and Hewitt-Trussville wrestler were named All-Americans at the National High School Coaches Association Nationals in Virginia Beach, Va., earlier this month.
Clay-Chalkville junior Nick Weldon finished in fifth place nationwide in the 160-pound weight class in the junior nationals, earning All-American status. Weldon won the 160-pound division earlier this year at the Alabama High School Athletic Association state wrestling tournament.
Hewitt-Trussville eighth-grader Heath Williamson finished in seventh place in the 112-pound weight class in the middle school nationals, also earning All-American status.

Other local wrestlers who participated included Marcus Elkins — who won the 182-pound AHSAA state championship earlier this year — Anoree Sanders, Luke Maestro, Alex Denson, Dalton Goode, Davis Perry and Austin Weldon. Jake Elkins and Rod Gaddy, part of the Alabama Wrestling Club, coached these wrestlers in Virginia Beach.
Pinson Valley freshman Hank Turner, who took third place in the Class 5A 126-pound weight class in the state wrestling tournament earlier this year, also participated at nationals.
