Trussville Mayor Gene Melton is pushing for a wood flooring plant to possible locate its next plant in Trussville
.
Melton said at last week’s Trussville City Council meeting that he is “pushing” the owner of the unidentified plant, who lives in Trussville, to locate the company’s next wood flooring plant in the Trussville Industrial Park, off U.S. Highway 11 near the Paine campus.
The company has a plant in West Helena, Ark., which Melton toured last weekend.
“I think it would be a good fit,” Melton said.
Melton said the wood flooring company is “entertaining” the idea of opening a plant east of the Mississippi River — likely in Alabama — in the next year to year and a half. Melton said other cities in Alabama are also vying to attract the plant.
Melton told the city council that one of his main concerns was the noise coming from a wood flooring plant, but after touring the West Helena facility — which sits behind the city’s police department and city hall — he wasn’t concerned about noise.
Melton said the wood flooring plant would be a “perfect fit” in Trussville.
“It’s very good, top-notch flooring,” he said.
