Turkey Creek Nature Preserve in Pinson will be hosting a bioblitz Saturday.
A bioblitz is an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time.
The goal of the bioblitz, also known as a biological inventory or biological census, is to get an overall count of the plants, animals, fungi and other organisms that live in the preserve.
The bioblitz will begin at 9 a.m. and last until about 1 p.m., said Turkey Creek Resident Manager Charles Yeager. Participants will be paired with a group of biologists to assist or observe their sampling efforts. Yeager said biologists and students from all over Alabama will be on hand to perform the bioblitz.
The preserve is also hosting the Alabama Master Naturalist Program on Alabama’s Living Streams next Thursday. The session will focus on freshwater aquatic ecosystems as well as the Alabama Water Watch Program.

The preserve will also host its fourth annual Float Your Boat event in conjunction with the city of Pinson’s Beat the Heat event July 20
. More information will be available as that date nears.
